Welcome to Nashville Sports Medicine Foundation (NSMF)

NSMF is a non-profit organization established to encourage, support, and nurture research and education directed at prevention, diagnosis, and management of injuries and disease in the field of orthopaedics. Founded by world-renowned orthopaedic surgeon, J. W. Thomas Byrd, M.D., the Foundation has made significant strides in research and education in the fields of hip arthroscopy and sports medicine.

From Dr. Byrd's landmark anatomic study defining safe and reproducible portals for access and instrumentation of the hip joint (1) to his correlation of arthroscopic findings with the results of physical examination and radiographic studies(2), our research has helped pave the way for dramatic improvements in diagnostic procedures and surgical techniques. Our efforts towards the advancement of arthroscopic studies continue to deliver innovations that affect lives around the world.
